Another Big Singles Day for IU Women's Tennis

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- On day two of the WMU Super Challenge, the IU women’s tennis team went 6-1 in singles play on Saturday, improving to 15-1 on the weekend. The Hoosiers also picked up three doubles victories.
Senior Katie Klyczek gave up just one game in her 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Cincinnati’s Kelly Poggensee-Wei. IU’s Alecia Kauss also cruised in a 6-1, 6-2 win over UC’s Ali Miller in the Black Flight.
Kim Schmider of Indiana downed Ella Perinovic of Western Michigan in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Paula Gutierrez won a first-set tiebreaker before taking the match over WMU’s Yuriko Ono, 7-6 (5), 6-2.
Freshman Sarah Baron blanked Ella Petrovska of WMU in the first set before eventually winning 6-0, 7-5. Mary Beth King also found her way to a win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Darby Mountford of Notre Dame.
Doubles winners for IU on Saturday were Klyczek and Gutierrez, Shannon Murdy and Stephanie Smith as well as Kauss and Baron.
The final day of the WMU Super Challenge will take place on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. ET.
