Strong Weekend Concludes for IU Women's Tennis

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - On the third and final day of the WMU Super Challenge, the IU women’s tennis team went 5-3 in singles play to end the weekend with a 20-4 record in singles as a whole.
Katie Klyczek finished her perfect weekend in the top singles draw (Gold Flight) downing Notre Dame’s Julie Vrabel, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (6). Klyczek went 3-0 on the weekend in singles play.
Indiana’s Kim Schmider, Paula Gutierrez and Sarah Baron also went 3-0 for the tournament. Schmider downed Notre Dame’s Jane Fennelly on Sunday, 6-7 (7), 6-3, 1-0 (7). Gutierrez took care of Marquette’s Paula Tormos, 6-0, 6-2 as Baron defeated Natalie Abdalla of Cincinnati in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Shannon Murdy gave up just two games in her 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Vanessa Foltinger of Marquette on Sunday.
This ends the fall schedule for the Hoosiers as IU will next play when it hosts the IU Winter Invitational on Jan. 17-19.
