2014 Season in Review

In the 2014 season the Indiana volleyball team showed great individual and team growth as highlighted by several accomplishments and milestones reached.
IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan and the team will go into the winter and spring excited about that growth and ready to work hard and improve to set up what should be a great 2015 season.
Here is a recap of those team and individual accomplishments and milestones of the 2014 season. Also below are the final two installments of Inside IU Volleyball as IU head coach Sherry-Dunbar Kruzan recaps the season and looks ahead to the future of the program.
Team Accomplishments/Milestones
• Most wins in a season (15) since the 2010 season.
• Most Big Ten wins in a season (6) since the 2010 season.
• Equaled Big Ten wins from the previous three seasons combined.
• Started the season 6-0 for the first time since 2010 and the sixth time in program history.
• Beat Minnesota for the first time since 2010 and the fourth time in the last 14 years.
• Became the third Big Ten team since 1985 to go from one conference win to six in back-to-back seasons
• Six more total wins than the previous season.
• Improved in statistical categories over the previous season (+73 in kill, +96 in assists, +324 in attempts, +31 in aces, -18 in service errors, +151 in digs, +40.5 in blocks).
• Had three players with 300 or more kills for the first time in at least 10 years.
• Had two players with 300 or more digs for the first time since 2009.
• All players combined to set 62 career single-match highs.
• Fourth in the Big Ten in aces with 145.
• Ranked second among Big Ten teams for aces in a four-set match with 13 against Miami (Ohio).
• 13 aces against Miami (Ohio) ranked fourth most in program history for a four-set match.
Individual Accomplishments/Milestones
• Morgan Leach became the 17th player in IU history with 1,000 or more kills for her career.
• Leach finished 15th in IU history in career kills with 1,110.
• Leach named MVP of UConn Classic and Indiana Invitational.
• Leach second in the Big Ten in hitting percentage in a three-set match at .750 against Western Illinois.
• Megan Tallman tallied 1,159 assists for the season, which is 13th all-time for single season assists, 14th IU player to reach 1,000 assists for a season.
• Tallman finished the season with a total of 1,848 assists, which is ninth on the all-time career assist list.
• Tallman finished eighth in the Big Ten in assists.
• Taylor Lebo tied for fifth on the IU all-time list for single season aces with 51.
• Lebo is tied for the most aces in the rally scoring era.
• Lebo had the most aces in a season since 2005.
• With her six aces against Miami (Ohio) Lebo has the second most for a four-set match in program history.
• With her five aces against Rutgers Lebo tied for second for aces in a Big Ten three-set match and tied for fifth for aces in a Big Ten match.
• Lebo finished the regular season ranked second in the Big Ten and 13th in the NCAA in service aces.
• Lebo fourth in the Big Ten in double-doubles for the season with 12.
• Lebo aces for a four-set match (6) ranks second in Big Ten.
• Courtney Harnish finished the season fifth on the all-time list for single season digs with 445.
• Harnish becomes the third player in IU volleyball history with 445 or more digs for a season.
• With her 26 digs against Mississippi State Harnish has the fourth most in program history for a four-set match.
• Harnish eighth in the Big Ten in digs.
• Kyndall Merritt named Big Ten Sportsmanship Award Honoree.
• Mariah Coleman, Morgan Leach, Courtney Harnish and Jazzmine McDonald named Academic All-Big Ten Honorees for Fall of 2014.
• Awele Nwaeze named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 6 after registering nine blocks in each match at Maryland and Rutgers.
• Amelia Anderson reached 700 career kills.
• Anderson ranked 13th in the Big Ten in kills with 312.
• Courtney Harnish reached 700 career digs.
• Awele Nwaeze reached 200 career blocks.
