Hoosier Open Kicks Off Track and Field Season

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After a memorable 2013-14 season with 45 times and marks in the top-10 in program history the Indiana track and field team begins the 2014-15 season by hosting the Hoosier Open on Friday Dec. 12 at Gladstein Fieldhouse.
Field events are scheduled to start at 3:45 p.m. ET with the weight throw and running events are slated to start at 4:30 p.m. ET with the seeded men's 5,000m run, followed by 60m Trials at 4:50 p.m. ET.
The 5,000m invitational races will be a highlight of the meet with the women's race at 7:00 p.m. and the men's to follow at 7:20 p.m. The men's field will feature several athletes with personal bests under 14 minutes and the field is expected to go under the 14-minute mark on Friday.
2013-14 IN REVIEW
The 2013-14 season was an exciting one for Indiana as they earned a Big Ten Championship in cross country, nine All-America honors, four Big Ten Championships event titles, one USATF Junior Championship, one Canadian Junior Championship, four school records and 45 times and marks in the top-10 in program history.
The IU men's distance medley relay team of Jordan Gornall, Derrick Morgan, Tretez Kinnaird and Rorey Hunter set an Indiana school record in 9:27.72 at the Alex Wilson Invitational, which was also the No. 5 all-time collegiate mark. The squad went on to finish in third-place at the NCAA Indoor Championships and all four return this season.
After the collegiate season, Kinnaird went on to win the USATF Junior National Championships and finished in sixth-place at the World Junior Championships in the 800m in 1:47.13, the second fastest time in school history.
On the women's side pole vaulters Sydney Clute and Sophie Gutermuth return for the 2014-15 season. Clute finished in fourth-place at the Big Ten Indoor Championships and earned All-American honors in her first national meet with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Gutermuth was the runner-up at the Big Ten Indoor Championships to teammate Kelsie Ahbe, who finished runner-up at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a school record of 4.40m.
HOOSIERS INVITE ALUMNI FOR INDIANA-PURDUE DUAL MEET JAN. 17
The Indiana University Track and Field coaching staff is personally inviting alumni, family and friends to reconnect and support the current team for the now annual Indiana-Purdue Dual Meet. The meet will be held at Indiana, at Gladstein Fieldhouse on Sat. Jan. 17 at 4:00 p.m. ET.
