OPENING TIP
• The 2014-15 college basketball season represents the 115th in the history of Indiana University. The Hoosiers are coming off a 94-74 loss to No. 4 Louisville in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. This will be the first ever meeting between IU and Grand Canyon.

• The Hoosiers will travel to Indianapolis to face Butler next week at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in the Crossroads Classic.
CENTRAL MICHIGAN CONNECTION
• Both head coaches are graduates of Central Michigan University. Tom Crean attended CMU from 1985-89 and Dan Majerle attended the University from 1984-88. Majerle played in the NBA from 1988-2002 and was an assistant coach for Phoenix from 2008-13. He took over the Grand Canyon program in 2013.
HEAD COACH Tom Crean
• Indiana named Tom Crean as its 28th men's basketball coach on April 2, 2008, and he is in his seventh year with the Hoosiers. He is 298-195 all-time as a head coach and in the last 3+ years, he has led IU to an 80-33 record, the 2013 Big Ten Championship and back-to-back appearances for the Hoosiers in the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 1994. In 2012-13, he was named NABC District 7 and USBWA District V Coach of the Year. In the last two seasons, Crean has mentored three NBA Lottery picks which is tied with Kansas for the most among NCAA schools in that span.
• Crean is the only Big Ten coach to mentor an NBA lottery pick, a National Player of the Year, a first team All-American, a first team Academic All-American and a Senior Class Award winner this decade.
• Since 2011-12, Indiana leads all major conference teams in field goal percentage (47.9), three-point field goal percentage (39.8) and free throw percentage (74.5). IU also is fifth nationally in scoring (77.0), and second in free throws made (2,059).
• The Hoosiers 38.6 percent shooting from behind the 3-point line since the start of the 2010-11 season is the highest among major college conference schools in that time frame.
• With the win over No. 22 SMU, IU leads Big Ten teams with 16 regular season wins over Top 25 teams since the start of the 2011-12 season.
THREE YEAR WIN TOTAL
• The Hoosiers 73 wins from 2011-12 to 2013-14 represents the highest three-year win total for IU since 1990-91 to 1992-93.
NUMBERS
• The Hoosiers are 3rd in the country in effective field goal percentage (59.8), 5th in scoring (86.8), 7th in 3FG percentage (43.5), and 9th in overall FG percentage (51.8.). IU is 12th in three-point field goals made (83) and 25th in total assists (146).

• The Los Angeles Athletic Club announced its Preseason Top 50 for the John R. Wooden Award and the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced their Top 50 Watch List for the Naismith Trophy and both lists include IU junior guard Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell. He is averaging 16.8 points and 5.7 assists and is shooting 45.5 percent from three-point range
TISDALE AWARD
• James Blackmon, Jr., and Robert Johnson have been named to the watch list for the Wayman Tisdale award, which is handed out by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) to the top freshman in the country each season.
Blackmon Jr., a native of Marion, Ind., has started all 9 games for the Hoosiers this season and is averaging 19.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest. He is also shooting 48.2 percent (27-of-56) from behind the 3-point line.
Johnson has also started all 9 games so far and is averaging 10.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. The Richmond, Va., native has made 50.7 percent of his shots from the floor and leads the team with 11 steals.
ARMED FORCES CLASSIC
• In 2016, the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Honolulu, Hawaii will host a doubleheader just weeks ahead of the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Indiana and Kansas will meet in one of the games, with Arizona and Michigan State meeting in the other.
ODDS AND TRENDS
• In the last three games, IU opponents are shooting 38.2 from the field and 28.2 from long distance. By contrast, IU is shooting 52.8 and 43.3 from downtown.
• In the last three games, redshirt junior Nick Zeisloft has made a team-high 8 three-point field goals and is now shooting 45.2 from long distance this season.
• Freshman Emmitt Holt is averaging 9.0 points and 4.3 rebounds per game during the last three games. He had a season-high 15 points against Pittsburgh. He has made 10-of-12 field goal attempts and leads the team with 5 blocked shots during that time frame.
• Sophomore Troy Williams has been a consistent performer since returning to the lineup. He has scored in double figures in every game this season and has shot 57.9 from the field. He made a season-high 4-of-4 free throws in the game against Louisville.
• Freshman Robert Johnson is shooting 50.7 from the field and 40.7 from three-point range. He also is second on the team with 33 assists.
• Sophomore Collin Hartman has been the team's most consistent performer off the bench averaging 4.4 points and 3.8 rebounds, while shooting 51.9 from the field and 50.0 from three-point range. He leads the team with 19 offensive rebounds.
• Freshman Max Hoetzel has hit 3 of 5 three-point field goals in his last 5 games.
STAFF WITH EXPERIENCE
• The Hoosiers have four former head coaches on their coaching staff this season. Associate Head Coach Tim Buckley begins his seventh year at Indiana. Former head coach at Ball State. His Cardinals beat No. 3 Kansas and #4 UCLA at the 2001 Maui Classic. Associate Head Coach Steve McClain is in his fifth year in Bloomington. Former head coach at Wyoming who led the Cowboys to the 2002 NCAA Tournament and a win over Gonzaga. Assistant Coach Chuck Martin joined the IU staff this past summer. Former head coach at Marist. Director of Operations Rob Judson came to IU in mid-season a year ago. Former head coach at Northern Illinois, who captured a MAC West title.
