BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana men's basketball team improved to 8-2 on the year as the Hoosiers defeated Grand Canyon on Saturday evening, 94-66. Freshman James Blackmon Jr. led the Hoosiers in scoring with 18 points, including 11 in the second half.
Troy Williams also hit double figures for Indiana with 14, while Hanner Mosquera-Perea added 11 points. A total of 11 Hoosiers scored in the contest, including nine contributing at least six points.
Saturday's victory marks the 299th of Coach Tom Crean's 16-year head coaching career.
The Hoosiers followed up a game-opening 9-4 run with a 16-4 stretch that saw Indiana knock down five 3-pointers, including four in a row. Kevin Yogi Ferrell and Nick Zeisloft knocked in a pair of triples, while Collin Hartman also hit from downtown to help lead Indiana to an early 25-11 advantage with 10:11 remaining in the opening stanza.
Five different Hoosiers scored at least six points or more in the first half as Indiana took a 42-31 lead into the locker room.
A 27-11 run out of the break broke open the game as Indiana took a 27-point lead with 11:12 remaining, capped by back-to-back lay-ins by Stanford Robinson. Robinson finished the game with a season-high eight points in 11 minutes of action.
Mosquera-Perea knocked in seven of his points and had two blocked shots in the final 9:07, as Grand Canyon never posed a threat in the second period.
The Hoosiers shot 51.4 percent (18-for-35) in the second half, while committing only four turnovers, the lowest in the Coach Crean era and the fewest since three against Western Illinois in 2006.
On the defensive side, Indiana held Grand Canyon to just 38.8 percent (28-for-67) shooting, including 12.5 percent (2-for-16) from the arc.
Next up for the Hoosiers is a trip to Indianapolis on Saturday to face Butler in the Crossroads Classic at 2:30 p.m.
