OPENING TIP
• The 2014-15 college basketball season represents the 115th in the history of Indiana University. The Hoosiers are coming off a 94-66 win at home to Grand Canyon. This will be the fourth year of the Crossroads Classic, an annual event that includes Butler, Indiana, Notre Dame and Purdue.

HEAD COACH Tom Crean
• Indiana named Tom Crean as its 28th men's basketball coach on April 2, 2008, and he is in his seventh year with the Hoosiers. He is 299-195 all-time as a head coach and in the last 3+ years, he has led IU to an 81-33 record, the 2013 Big Ten Championship and back-to-back appearances for the Hoosiers in the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 1994. In 2012-13, he was named NABC District 7 and USBWA District V Coach of the Year. In the last two seasons, Crean has mentored three NBA Lottery picks which is tied with Kansas for the most among NCAA schools in that span.

• Crean is the only Big Ten coach to mentor an NBA lottery pick, a National Player of the Year, a first team All-American, a first team Academic All-American and a Senior Class Award winner this decade.
• Since 2011-12, Indiana leads all major conference teams in field goal percentage (47.8), and three-point field goal percentage (39.7). IU is also 2nd in free throw percentage (74.4). The Hoosiers are fourth nationally in scoring (77.2), and second in free throws made (2,077).
• The Hoosiers 38.6 percent shooting from behind the 3-point line since the start of the 2010-11 season is the highest among major college conference schools in that time frame.
• With the win over No. 22 SMU, IU leads Big Ten teams with 16 regular season wins over Top 25 teams since the start of the 2011-12 season.
IU INSIGHT
• James Blackmon, Jr. continues to lead all freshmen nationally in scoring at 19.2 points per game and in three-point field goals made with 28. He is third among freshman with a 49.6 field goal percentage. He is third in the Big Ten in scoring and in three-point field goals made per game at 2.8. Joins Calbert Cheaney as the only Hoosier freshman (since freshman eligibility returned in 1974) to start off his career with 10 straight double-figure games to start a career.
• Sophomore Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell needs 17 points to become the 48th player in IU history to reach the 1,000 point mark in a career and seventh recruit of Tom Crean's to join that club. He is ninth in the league in scoring (15.9), fourth in assists (5.4) and sixth in free throw percentage (87.5). Ferrell leads all Big Ten junior is scoring (983) and assists (326).
• Junior Hanner Mosquera-Perea is second in the Big Ten shooting 70.5 from the field. He is averaging 8.0 points and 4.6 rebounds. He also leads the team in blocked shots with 12.
• In the Big Ten, the Hoosiers are first in scoring (87.5) and in three-point field goals made per game (9.3). IU is second in field goal percentage (50.8), third in 3-point percentage (42.1) and offensive rebound percentage (37.7), sixth in rebound margin (+3.8), seventh in assist/turnover ratio (1.3).
THREE YEAR WIN TOTAL
• The Hoosiers 73 wins from 2011-12 to 2013-14 represents the highest three-year win total for IU since 1990-91 to 1992-93.
NUMBERS
• The Hoosiers are 5th in the country in scoring (87.5), 9th in effective field goal percentage (59.6), and 11th in overall FG percentage (50.8.) and in 3FG percentage (42.1).
BALL SECURITY
• The Hoosiers had just four turnovers against Grand Canyon and did not commit a miscue in the entire second half. The four turnovers were the fewest at IU since playing Western Illinois in 2006 and were the fewest by a team in the 16-year coaching career of Tom Crean.
WOODEN AND NAISMITH AWARDS
• The Los Angeles Athletic Club announced its Preseason Top 50 for the John R. Wooden Award and the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced their Top 50 Watch List for the Naismith Trophy and both lists include IU junior guard Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell. He is averaging 16.8 points and 5.7 assists and is shooting 45.5 percent from three-point range
TISDALE AWARD
• James Blackmon, Jr., and Robert Johnson have been named to the watch list for the Wayman Tisdale award, which is handed out by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) to the top freshman in the country each season.
Blackmon Jr., a native of Marion, Ind., has started all 10 games for the Hoosiers this season and is averaging 19.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per contest. He is also shooting 45.9 percent (28-of-61) Freshman Robert Johnson has also started all 10 games so far and is averaging 10.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. The Richmond, Va., native has made 50.7 percent of his shots from the floor and 40.0 from three-point range. He also leads the team with 11 steals.
ARMED FORCES CLASSIC
• In 2016, the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Honolulu, Hawaii will host a doubleheader just weeks ahead of the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Indiana and Kansas will meet in one of the games, with Arizona and Michigan State meeting in the other.
ODDS AND TRENDS
• In the last five games, IU opponents are shooting 40.4 from the field and 32.7 from long distance. By contrast, IU is shooting 50.2 and 39.3 from downtown.
• Sophomore Troy Williams has improved his scoring average nearly 5 points and is averaging 12.3 points per game. He is eighth in the Big Ten shooting 57.6 from the field. In addition to his points per game, Williams has shown statistical improvement in free throw percentage, assists, rebounds and turnovers.
• Junior Nick Zeisloft is averaging 7.8 points and is shooting 49.1 from three-point range. He has made 11 of his last 22 three-point attempts. He told media last week that he makes 300 three-pointers per day.
• Sophomore Collin Hartman has improved his scoring 4 points to 4.6 points per game and 3 rebounds to 3.9 per game. He is shooting 50.0 from the field and has made 9 of 18 three-point field goals. He also leads the team with 21 offensive rebounds.
• Freshman Emmitt Holt is contributing 6.2 points and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 81.3 from the field. He also has made 73.3 of his free throws.
• Sophomore Stanford Robinson has 16 assists and just 6 turnovers.
• Freshman Max Hoetzel has made four of his last six three-point field goal attempts.
STAFF WITH EXPERIENCE
• The Hoosiers have four former head coaches on their coaching staff this season. Associate Head Coach Tim Buckley begins his seventh year at Indiana. Former head coach at Ball State. His Cardinals beat No. 3 Kansas and #4 UCLA at the 2001 Maui Classic. Associate Head Coach Steve McClain is in his fifth year in Bloomington. Former head coach at Wyoming who led the Cowboys to the 2002 NCAA Tournament and a win over Gonzaga. Assistant Coach Chuck Martin joined the IU staff this past summer. Former head coach at Marist. Director of Operations Rob Judson came to IU in mid-season a year ago. Former head coach at Northern Illinois, who captured a MAC West title.
