Hoosiers Gear Back Up for Swimming at Home, Nationals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana men's and women's swimming squads are back in the water this week with most of the group traveling to the 2013 AT&T Winter National Championships, December 3-6 in Greensboro, North Carolina. A smaller contingent will also compete at the Hoosierland Invitational, December 5-6 in Bloomington.
Competing at Winter Nationals for the Hoosiers are (Women)- Haley Lips, Stephanie Marchuk, Kennedy Goss, Dorina Szekeres, Gia Dalesandro, Brooklynn Snodgrass, Bailey Pressey, Reagan Cook, Olivia Barker, Allie Day, Sam Lisy, Marie Chamberlain, Grace Vertigans, Justine Ress, Kaitlin Kitchens, Cynthia Pammett, Delaney Barnard, Claudia Di Capua, Shelby Carroll, Ali Rockett, Rachel Matsumura and (Men)- Max Irwin, Jackson Miller, Grayson Smith, Teddy Kalp, Mike Hurley, Blake Pieroni, Bob Glover, Cody Taylor, Tanner Kurz, Ryan Gordon, Brandon Colonis, Jonathan Panchak, Anze Tavcar, Yianni Thermos, Ali Khalafalla, Joe Powell, Kyle Johnson, Nick Wonder, Curtis Goss, Sam Apa, Marijn van Zundert, Levi Brock, Jack Wallar.
Nationals get underway on Wednesday, December 3 with an evening session of relays. Thursday, December 4, will feature the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle. Friday, December 5 is the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke. The meet concludes on Saturday, December 6 with the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 1,650 freestyle and 200 butterfly.

The Indiana men and women last competed on October 31 with a dual meet with Tennessee and Kentucky. Both teams swept the Vols and Wildcats, with the men currently 4-2 on the season and the women 3-3. In the most recent College Swimming Coaches Association of America rankings the men come in at No. 13 and the women at No. 10.
For those not competing at Nationals, a group of 12 Indiana swimmers, along with swimmers from Eastern Illinois, will compete at the Hoosierland Invitational, December 5-6 at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington. The meet begins at 5:30 p.m. ET Friday night, followed by a morning session (Noon) and an evening session (5:30 p.m.) on Saturday, December 6.

In addition to the collegiate competition, the Hoosiers are well represented at the 2014 FINA Short Course World Championships this week in Doha, Qatar. Head swimming coach Ray Looze is serving as head women's coach of Team USA at the international competition, while former Hoosiers Cody Miller (50, 100, 200 breaststroke) and Lindsay Vrooman (400, 800 freestyle) are part of the Team USA contingent.
