BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana men's basketball team improved to 9-2 on the year as the Hoosiers defeated No. 23/25 Butler in the Crossroads Classic on Saturday, 82-73.
The victory marked Coach Tom Crean's 300th career win. Junior Kevin Yogi Ferrell also hit a milestone of his own as his 20 points took his career total to 1,003, making him the 48th player in Indiana program history to reach the 1,000 points club.
Troy Williams led the Hoosiers with 22 points, which ties his career best, and a career-high 11 rebounds. Ferrell knocked in all 20 of his points in the second half, marking the first time since 2009 a Hoosier has scored 20 points in a half. Hanner Mosquera-Perea and Collin Hartman (career high) each scored eight points to guide Indiana to the victory. The eight points for Hartman are a career high for the sophomore.
In a game that featured nine lead changes, the Hoosiers used 47.1 percent (16-of-34) second-half shooting, including 50 percent (4-of-8) from downtown to propel them to victory.
After the Bulldogs jumped to an early 13-10 lead to open the game, the Hoosiers used a 7-2 run to take a 17-15 advantage with 13:12 remaining in the opening stanza.
Behind 12 first half points from Williams, Indiana pushed its lead to as many as 10 points with 3:44 left in the first period. However, Butler used a 11-1 run to square the game at 38-38 heading into the break.
Ferrell went to work in the second half, with a stretch of scoring 12 of Indiana's 14 points from the 13:37 - 8:57 mark, including 10 straight Hoosier points as Indiana took back the lead with a 61-59 advantage, a lead the Hoosiers would not relinquish.
A Ferrell 3-pointer with 3:09 left on the clock gave Indiana its largest lead of the afternoon at 76-65.
Indiana outrebounded the Bulldogs, 48-40 and held Butler to just 39.1 percent (27-of-69) from the field, including 18.8 percent (3-for-16) 3-point shooting.
The Hoosiers return to Assembly Hall on Monday as they face New Orleans in the final home non-conference matchup of the year at 7 p.m.
