200 Backstroke
Eric Ress easily took first in his heat with a time of 1:40.29, an NCAA A cut and just outside the all-time IU top five. James Wells also posted an A cut, matching his career best with a time of 1:41.33. They are the second and third seeds in tonight's championship final. Curtis Goss was also a winner in his heat, cutting more than five seconds off his career best with a 1:46.69, earning a spot in the bonus final.. Joining him in the C final is Bob Glover who went a career best 1:46.84.
100 Freestyle Anze Tavcar posted a career best of 43.69, good for 14th overall and a spot in the consolation final. Yianni Thermos was victorious in his heat and placed 27th overall with a career time of 44.65. In the same heat Sam Lorentz took third with his career best of 45.30, placing him 44th. Jackson Miller put up a career mark of 45.01, taking the 35th spot. Kyle Johnson opened with a win in heat one, posting a career best of 45.78, a finish of 50th in the field.
200 Breaststroke
Cody Miller put up the fourth-fastest time in IU history with his winning time of 1:53.78 in heat five. That is an NCAA A cut and the top seed in tonight's championship final. Joining Miller in the championship final is Mike Hurley who qualified sixth with a time of 1:56.73. Tanner Kurz went 1:57.50, earning a spot in the consolation final. Marijn van Zundert's career best of 2:02.32 was good for 29th, while Blaine Nichols was right behind with his personal best of 2:02.34, placing 30th.
200 Butterfly Steve Schmuhl went 1:43.55, just 2/100ths of a second off his school record and tied for the second-fastest time in IU history. That puts him as the third seed in the championship final tonight. Max Irwin clocked a career best 1:46.13 and will swim the consolation final Joe Powell set a new career best by just over three seconds with a time of 1:48.36, 20th overall to earn a spot in the C final. Michael Mohler took nearly four seconds off his career best to win his heat and finish 25th with a time of 1:48.95.
