BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior Kyla Buckley won the Big Ten Championship in the shot put and the Hoosiers distance medley relay set a school record. Both are now ready to compete against the best in the nation as they will represent the Indiana track & field tem at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships March 14-15 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Buckley, who defended her title and became the fifth straight women’s indoor Big Ten champion in the shot put, has a best mark of 17.17m (56-4), the sixth best throw in the NCAA this season.
The men’s distance medley relay team of redshirt sophomore Jordan Gornall, senior Derrick Morgan, freshman Tre’Tez Kinnaird and junior Rorey Hunter won the Alex Wilson Invitational with a school record and fifth fastest collegiate all-time performance in 9:27.72. Their time currently ranks second in the nation this year. Senior Robby Nierman will travel with the group as an alternate for the DMR. Nierman finished second in the mile at the Big Ten Indoor Championships.
The Hoosiers have had success in the men’s distance medley relay, as this will be their sixth consecutive appearance in the national meet. Last year the team, which included Hunter, finished fourth, earning All-America honors.
Buckley is no stranger to the national scene as well, as she finished 16th last year at the NCAA Indoor Championships and 17th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The men’s distance medley relay will be contested on Friday March 14 at 11:15 p.m. ET and the women’s shot put competition will take place on Saturday March 15 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
Live results will be available on FlashResults.com and the meet will be streamed live on ESPN3 on March 14 starting at 7:55 p.m. ET and March 15 starting at 7:50 p.m. ET. A tape delay of the championship will air Saturday, March 22, starting at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
