BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – IU alum Jeff Cohen (1983-86) was a student-athlete on the Indiana men’s tennis team.
Cohen, who grew up in Wilmington, Del., graduated from IU law school and worked for a law firm in Indianapolis. He shares what he is doing now and memories from Indiana.
On what he is doing now professionally
As a partner in The Knall/Cohen Group and Managing Director of Stifel Nicolaus, Jeff works closely with families, foundations, and endowments to help ensure that their assets are protected and that they are provided the best opportunities to accumulate wealth. The group manages and/or consults on over $6.5 billion in client assets.
Prior to joining the team, Jeff was a partner with one of Indiana’s largest law firms, representing individuals and private and public corporations. In 1997, Jeff joined David Knall at what was formerly known as McDonald & Company Investments. The duo later started The Knall/Cohen Group and joined with the financial services firm Stifel Nicolaus.
On memories of being a student-athlete and overall experience at IU
I have great memories of being a student-athlete at IU. Some of my fondest memories were the times I spent with my teammates. Whether it be at practice, games, or off the court we always had fun and I still have many teammates who are some of my good friends to this day. My overall college experience, being in a fraternity, and business and law school is something that I have extremely fond memories of.
On how being a student-athlete at IU helped prepare him for his professional career
Being a student-athlete at IU taught me how to be disciplined, manage my time, and overcome adversity. It was not always easy balancing athletics with academics and my social life, but it prepared me for the discipline needed to get through law school and the adversity that I periodically face in my professional career.
