BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Big Ten Conference named Kyle Hart its Pitcher of the Week on Monday (March 17). It marks Indiana's third weekly conference award this season (Pitcher: Joey DeNato, Feb. 18 - Player: Kyle Schwarber, March 3).
Hart pitched a total of 8.1 innings last week, garnering most of his action in a winning effort against nationally-ranked Kentucky. Hart was throwing darts from the mound, issuing no walks while striking out eight. The Cincinnati southpaw scattered five hits and allowed two runs, just one of which was earned, to card his 15th career win. The eight Ks tie a career high, doing so twice as a freshman in 2012, and the 15th pitching victory moves him within three of cracking Indiana's all-time top-10.
He then came back on the weekend, and stuck out the only batter he faced in the bottom of the ninth en route to Indiana's 11-inning road victory at Long Beach State.
Hart has surrendered a lone earned run in his last 16.1 innings pitched.
