Hoosiers Win Three Big Ten Weekly Awards

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Three Indiana track & field student-athletes recorded top-four times and marks in the NCAA this season to receive Big Ten Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors, the conference announced today.
Redshirt junior Nolan Fife earned men's track athlete of the week following his 3,000m steeplechase win at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C. on March 21.
Fife crossed the finish line in 8:54.46, which is the top time in the NCAA outdoor season.
Redshirt junior Samantha Ginther also exceled in the 3,000m steeplechase as she won the women's race at the 49er Classic in a time of 10:24.89, the second fastest time in the NCAA this season and seventh fastest time in IU history. Ginther earned women's track athlete of the week from the Big Ten.
Redshirt sophomore Sophie Gutermuth earned women's field athlete of the week, following her performance at the 49er Classic. Gutermuth won the pole vault with an outdoor personal record of 4.15m (13-7.5). Gutermuth's mark is the fourth best in the NCAA this season and fourth best in IU history. This week Gutermuth will compete in the pole at the Texas Relays.
Indiana earned seven Big Ten weekly awards during the indoor season.
The Hoosiers start competition today at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, with sophomores Stephen Keller and Dylan Anderson in the decathlon.
