BOISE, Idaho - Indiana and Boise State made it into the top of the fifth last night before darkness set in at Dona Larsen Park in Boise, Idaho, resulting in the suspension of that game that was eventually finished this afternoon. The Hoosiers closed out the contest with 5-4 win over the Broncos for their second straight victory and improve to 4-16-1.
On Saturday, the Hoosiers took a 3-0 lead prior to being suspended. All three runs occurred in the top of the fourth inning. Jenna Abraham walked to start the frame and advanced to second on Natalie Lalich's second single of the contest. With runners on first and second, Farmer drove an outside pitch out to the fence in right to drive in Abraham from second and put runners on second and third. Michelle Huber followed with a double down the left field line to clear the bases and give IU a 3-0 lead over the Broncos.
Boise State threatened to strike in the bottom half of the fifth after pushing a runner over to third, but the Hoosiers would get out of the inning and head into the top of the fifth.
Brianna Meyer connected on a one-out single to center field in the top of that inning; however, conditions were considered too dark to continue play and the game was suspended.
The Hoosiers resumed play this afternoon and went on to score two more runs in that inning. Abraham walked to place runners on first and second base, and a single by Lalich loaded the bases with one away. Farmer followed with a deep fly ball to right to plate a run and give the Hoosiers a 4-0 lead. An RBI-single from Huber pushed the Hoosiers lead to five as it scored Abraham from third.
The Broncos scored a pair of runners in the sixth and nearly made a comeback with a two-run homerun with two away in the seventh, but Brooke Boetjer checked into the circle and retired the final out on strikes to earn her first save of the season.
Meaghan Murphy earned her first win of the year to improve to 1-7. She tossed the first 6.0 innings where she allowed four earned runs on seven hits while striking out seven.
The Hoosiers totaled 10 hits in the contest led by Lalich's 3-for-4 effort. Michelle Huber drove in three runs on two hits, while Kassi Farmer plated a pair of RBI on a 1-for-2 day. Saucedo reached base for the seventh straight game with a 2-for-4 outing for the Hoosiers.
