BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the second year in a row, Indiana University senior diver Darian Schmidt has been named the Big Ten Diver of the Year in a vote among coaches, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Schmidt recently completed his senior season, highlighted by Big Ten titles on the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard. Schmidt won his second career Big Ten title on the 1-meter with a score of 381.30, followed by a victory on the 3-meter with a score of 451.90.
For his efforts he was named the Big Ten Diver of the Championships for the third-straight season.
At the 2013 Big Ten meet Schmidt was crowned champion on the 1-meter springboard, and he was the 2012 Big Ten champion on the 3-meter.
At the 2014 NCAA Championships, Schmidt placed sixth on the 3-meter, earning All-America honors. He was an All-American on the 1-meter (sixth) and 3-meter (third) in 2013, as well as an All-American on the 3-meter in 2012 (seventh).
This is the 12th time overall and the third-straight year a Hoosier has taken home Big Ten Diver of the Year honors. Schmidt joins Mark Lenzi (1989, 90), Mike Collier (1997, 98, 99) and Marc Carlton (2003, 05) as multiple-time winners for the Hoosiers.
