Hoosiers Rout Gannon 15-3, Remain Undefeated in Conference Play

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The No. 14 Indiana water polo team completed their second straight tournament undefeated by completing their final match of the Western Division Round Robin No.2 with a 15-3 victory over Gannon University. The Hoosiers were named Western Conference Champions for the second straight year after going 11-0 in league play.
The first quarter started with a flurry of Hoosier scoring. Meghan Lappan led the way, netting the opening goal of the match. Seniors Shae Fournier, Carson Nestler, and juniors Summer Creighton and Shelby Taylor followed suit.
Amanda Redfern tossed in back-to-back goals from the center position and the Hoosiers finished the first period with a 7-2 lead.
Sophomore Mary Campbell was given the start as Hoosier goalkeeper for the second time this season. Campbell anchored Indiana on defense all afternoon, holding the Knights scoreless until late in the first quarter. Mary finished the match with 14 saves on 30 shot attempts, just one shy of her career-high.
Freshman Ellie Stott racked up two goals off of two steals in under a minutes time, further fueling the IU lead in the second quarter. Another freshman, Emily Milstead, was also active on the offensive end. Though she didn't score a point, Milstead was a part of numerous, accounting for three assists and creating space for several teammates.
Nine different Indiana players scored points in the final 15-3 victory. Milstead led the way in assists, while Stott, Creighton, and Bronwyn Smith achieved game-highs on defense with two steals.
With their Western Division Title, the Hoosiers have clinched no lower than a two seed in the Eastern Conference Finals in two weeks in Lewisburg, PA. The winner of the Eastern Conference will earn a ticket to this year's NCAA Championships help on Los Angeles, Calif. May 11.
