Hoosiers Set Top Times at Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford Invitational has historically been a place where Indiana track & field student-athletes have set top times in the record books and Friday night was no different as freshman Amanda Behnke set the 10th best time in program history in the 5,000-meter run and junior Evan Esselink set the sixth fastest time in the 10,000-meter run.
Behnke, finished sixth in her heat in a time of 16:28.83, the 10th fastest time in school history in the women’s 5K. Esselink, running his fist race of the outdoor season, crossed the finish line in 29:28.39, the sixth fastest time in school history for the men’s 10K.
Junior Rorey Hunter won his section of the men’s 5K in 13:55.20. His time was five seconds off the top-10 in program history.
Redshirt junior Samantha Ginther (16:40.97) and redshirt sophomore Brianna Johnson (17:27.75) also competed in the women’s 5K.
Also in the men’s 5K redshirt freshman Matt Schwartzer ran 14:06.66, redshirt freshman Jason Crist (14:18.86), redshirt sophomore Owen Skeete (14:27.09), redshirt junior Nolan Fife (14:27.72), senior Robby Nierman (14:28.02) and redshirt sophomore Joshua Roche (14:30.35) competed in the race.
Redshirt sophomore Kyle Overway competed in the men’s 10K and finished in 29:54.14 in the race.
The IU track and field team will be in action on Saturday at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
