Fournier Named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana water polo's Shae Fournier was recently honored by the Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for her academic achievements by being named to the Capital One All-District First Team, making her eligible for Academic All-American honors. The senior, who earned her degree in Psychology this month, finished her college career with a 3.65 GPA.
Fournier, named CWPA Player of the Year, became Indiana's all-time leading scorer during the 2014 season with 302 goals. Fournier is one of only five women's colligate water polo players to ever reach 300 goals in their career.
Shae, who currently holds the record at Indiana for most goals scored in a season with 95, scored 82 goals during her senior campaign, which is second-most all-time in a single season at IU.
The All-American and four-time All-Conference selection earned 19 weekly Player of the Week honors from the CWPA. Her 19 honors is a record for most ever in the CWPA. Shae has also set a new Indiana all-time assist record with 154. She passed the record of 151 set by Brooke Zimmerman (2006-08). She is also currently second in career steals (306).
With less than one minute on the clock, Fournier scored the game-winner against Princeton in the CWPA Championships, earning her team the eighth and final spot in the NCAA Tournament. It was Indiana's 3rd ever, and Shae's second, appearance in the NCAA Finals.
In order for student-athletes to be eligible for Capital One/CoSIDA Academic honors, they must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 while also participating in at least half of their sport's competitions. Members of CoSIDA vote upon district honors, with the first-team honorees moving on to the national ballot.
