Hoosier Pole Vaulters Qualify for NCAA Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior Kelsie Ahbe and sophomore Sydney Clute punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships Saturday at the NCAA East Prelim meet.
Ahbe and Clute both cleared 4.20m (13-9.25) in the pole vault as they finished sixth and seventh (top 12 qualify) to qualify for the national meet. For Ahbe, it will be her third trip to the NCAA Championships and she will finish where she started when she competed at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships her freshman season.
The clearance for Clute was a career-best mark and will be her first appearance at the NCAA Championships.
The Hoosiers have now had five female pole vaulters qualify for the NCAA Championships under ninth-year assistant coach Jake Wiseman.
In the men’s steeplechase senior Robby Nierman finished 13th in 8:47.87. Jason Crist followed in 17th in 8:51.30. Nolan Fife finished in 20th in 8:52.31 and Joshe Roche was 40th in 9:11.50.
In the women’s steeplechase senior Samantha Ginther finished 18th in 10:20.18 and Brianna Johnson was 24th in 10:26.77.
In the women’s discus redshirt freshman Nakel McClinton finished in 21st place with a mark of 50.14m (164-6). Redshirt sophomore Sarah Maxson cleared 1.67m (5-5.75) to finish in 34th position in the women’s high jump.
