DeNato Named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana senior pitcher Joey DeNato had another dominant performance to earn Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors as announced by the conference on Monday. It is DeNato's fourth weekly conference award of his career and his third this season (Feb. 18, April 21).
The southpaw pitched seven shutout innings and allowed just five hits to Purdue on Friday, May 2, to earn his 10th win of the season. He struck out seven Boilermakers and picked off two base runners to bring his season total of pickoffs to 11.
DeNato is now 10-1 on the season with a 2.06 ERA. The program's career wins, innings and strikeouts leader holds a 34-9 career record with an ERA of 2.65. He holds a perfect record in 2014 Big Ten play as he's 6-0 with a 2.18 ERA in 41.1 innings pitched.
The San Diego, Calif., native leads a Hoosier pitching staff that has the best ERA in the Big Ten at 2.39, which also ranks 13th-best nationally.
Indiana holds a three-game lead in the Big Ten regular season standings with six conference games remaining. Up next for the Hoosiers is a road series at Penn State this weekend May 9-11 (6:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 1 p.m).
