Four Hoosiers Earn All-America Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Monday the list of those Division I student-athletes who earned USTFCCCA All-America honors for the 2014 outdoor track & field season, with four Indiana student-athletes being honored.
Senior Kelsie Ahbe and sophomore Sydney Clute earned First Team All-America honors for their performances in the pole vault. Ahbe, the Big Ten Indoor Champion in the pole vault set a school record of 4.40m to finish runner-up at the NCAA Championships. Clute also earned a spot on the podium with an eighth-place finish with a clearance of 4.15m.
Senior Kyla Buckley, the Big Ten indoor and outdoor champion this season finished 11th in the shot put, with a best throw of 16.52m. Buckley earned Second Team All-America honors. Also earning Second Team All-America honors was junior Rorey Hunter. Hunter, the Big Ten Champion in the 1500m run finished ninth in the event in 3:40.75.
Redshirt freshman Matthew Schwartzer earned Honorable Mention All-America honors with a 17th place finish in the 5000m run in 14:08.38.
IU head coach Ron Helmer has now coached student-athlete to 419 All-America honors in his coaching career.
