BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana field hockey head coach Amy Robertson has released the 2014 schedule, which will feature a 17-game regular season schedule.
The Hoosiers start the season on the road with matches against New Hampshire (Aug. 29) and Saint Louis (Aug. 30). Those two matches will be played in Louisville, Ky.
Indiana will open the season at the IU Field Hockey Complex on Sept. 5 with a 2:00 p.m. match against California and a match on Sept. 7 at 12:00 p.m. against UC Davis.
“To challenge our growth and to reach our goals for the 2014 season we wanted to put together a tougher schedule and one that included opponents from outside the West region,” IU head coach Amy Robertson said. “This year’s schedule will give us an opportunity to compete against some of the best in the country. We have two ACC teams on our schedule next year and one of those, Duke was the runner up in the National Championship. With the addition of Maryland and Rutgers to the Big Ten plus our opening game against New Hampshire we will mix up our resume to include three different regions outside of our own.”
The Hoosiers will then hit the road for matches at Miami (Ohio), Ball State, Ohio, Iowa and Northwestern, before returning home for matches against Michigan (Oct. 3) and Duke (Oct. 5).
The last time Indiana played Duke in Bloomington, during the 2011 season, the Hoosiers came away with a 3-2 overtime victory against the Blue Devils, ranked No. 15 at the time.
The Hoosiers will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., Nov. 6-9 for the Big Ten Tournament, hosted by Michigan. The NCAA tournament will begin on Nov. 15 with the Final Four Nov. 22-24 at Maryland.
