#IUWBB Freshman Update: Jess Walter

The Indiana women's basketball program will welcome four freshmen in Tyra Buss, Amanda Cahill, Maura Muensterman and Jess Walter to campus this summer. As part of a weekly series, IUHoosiers.com will post a feature for each of these four incoming players that includes updates from their senior year of high school.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana women's basketball rounds out its 2014 recruiting class with 5-11 guard Jess Walter from Midland, Mich. Walter used her impressive shooting and passing skills to lead Midland High School to a 21-3 record and a district title in her final season.
In her senior season, Jess Walter averaged 18.0 points, 5.9 assists, 4.1 rebounds, 3.9 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. She was the runner-up for Miss Basketball in the state of Michigan and was also selected to the Detroit Press First Team Class-A All State team in 2014.
Walter led Midland to its third District Championship in four years, and the team was ranked in the top 10 in the state for the entire season.
She holds Midland High School records for most points scored in a season, most 3-pointers made in a season and most assists in a season. Those came in her junior season, where she averaged 20.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 3.4 steals per game.
Walter saw many other accolades in her high school career. She was named to the Saginaw Daily News Dream Team, named the Midland Daily News Dream Team MVP Saginaw Valley League MVP, Saginaw Valley League First Team, High School Sports Scene Magazine Dream Team Co-Player of the Year and was named to the Michigan Academic All-State team as well.
Walter led Midland to back-to-back District titles in her freshman and sophomore seasons, including the school's first-ever regional title in her freshman year.
Walter is ranked as one of the top five seniors in the state of Michigan by many Midwest recruiting services. Lady Ballers International (Michigan only recruiting service) places Walter as the No. 1 wing and No. 5 overall prospect in the state of Michigan.
