Hoosiers Finish Day 1 of Junior Nationals

IRVINE, Calif. - Members of the Indiana University swimming team wrapped up day one of competition at the 2014 Speedo Junior National Championships in Irvine, Calif.
Sophomore Stephanie Marchuk led the way on day one with a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter freestyle, clocking in at 8:43.31. Sophomore and Bloomington native Max Irwin placed 10th overall in the 200-meter butterfly, coming in second in the consolation final with a time of 2:01.50. He posted a 2:01.48 in prelims.
Also in the morning prelims session, freshman Brandon Colonis was 43rd overall in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:05.29.
Action continues through Sunday with Colonis in the 400 individual medley, Irwin in the 100 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay on Thursday.
