Final Results from 2014 ITA National Collegiate Summer Championships in Bloomington, Ind., Aug 9-12.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana men’s tennis junior Sam Monette won the singles title at the 2014 ITA National Collegiate Summer Championships on Tuesday.
The final match pitted Monette, the No. 1 overall tournament seed against No. 2 seed Zach McCourt from Princeton.
Monette won the first set 6-2, but McCourt came back to claim the second set 7-5 to set up a 10 point tie break for the match. Monette fell behind a couple of points early, but came back strong to take the tie break 10-8 and win the match.
For winning the match and championship, Monette earns a spot in the ITA Men’s All-American Championships, Sept. 27-Oct. 5 at the University of Tulsa.
IU women’s tennis senior Katie Klyczek won the women’s singles consolation final with a 6-1,6-2 victory. Sophomore Matt McCoy competed in the men’s singles consolation final, but fell 1-6, 4-6.
