BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team will open up the 2014 campaign with a pair of games in Louisville, Ky. The Hoosiers will face New Hampshire on Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. and will take on Saint Louis on Aug. 30 at 5 p.m.
Back for 15
The Indiana field hockey program will kick off its 15th season of play this weekend with a pair of games in Louisville, Ky. The Hoosiers will face the University of New Hampshire on Friday evening before squaring off with Saint Louis on Saturday. Live stats for both games will be available on IUHoosiers.com.
Since We've Been Gone
The Hoosiers return 16 letterwinners from the 2013 campaign, including 2013 All-Big Ten selections Audra Heilman and Sydney Supica.
During the summer, Phil Edwards was named Associate Head Coach. Edwards is entering his third season with the Hoosiers.
Eye on the Wildcats
New Hampshire is coming off its fourth consecutive America East regular season conference title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats posted a 15-7 record in 2013 and a 5-0 conference record. This is the fourth meeting between the Hoosiers and Wildcats in program history and the first since 2006. The Hoosiers lead the series, 3-0.
Battling the Billikens
Indiana and Saint Louis will face off for the ninth time in program history. The Hoosiers fell to the Billikens in 2000 and 2001, but have since defeated St. Louis six times in a row. The last meeting between the teams resulted in a 11-0 victory for the Hoosiers, a program record.
Indiana assistant coach Kate Lipton spent three seasons with Saint Louis before joining the Hoosiers.
Preseason Preparation The Indiana field hockey team topped Miami (Ohio) in its lone exhibition contest of the preseason, 6-2. The set-up was different from a typical contest in the action featured two 35-minute periods, followed by a 10-minute overtime period and a shootout.
The Hoosiers were led by senior Audra Heilman, who recorded a hat trick in the contest. Junior Nicole Volgraf added two goals for Indiana, while Morgan Dye scored once.
Six Pick Up Sticks Indiana welcomes six new players to the 2014 roster. Freshmen Glenne Carter (California), Cameron Gibson (Virginia), Maddie Latino (Kentucky), Marcia Lewis (California), Taylor Pearson (Canada) and Abby Urbanek (Illinois) will suit up for the Hoosiers this fall.
Oh Captain, My Captain
Seniors Maggie Olson and Audra Heilman will both serve as team captains for the second consecutive year.
