MAUI, Hawaii - Indiana University freshman swimmer Blake Pieroni took home a silver medal in the men's 200-meter freestyle on day one of the Junior Pan Pacific Championships on the island of Maui in Hawaii.
Pieroni finished second to give Team USA the 1-2 sweep with Townley Haas setting a new meet record for gold with a time of 1:48.32. Pieroni was right behind in 1:48.85, taking down his own school record of 1:49.26 set earlier this month at the Phillips 66 National Championships in Irvine, California.
Competition continues Thursday as Pieroni swims the 100 freestyle, where he enters as the No. 2 seed in the event. Fellow IU freshman Cody Taylor is also in Hawaii for the meet and will swim the 100 breaststroke on Thursday.
