Women's Golf Opens 2014-15 Season This Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University women's golf team will travel to South Carolina on Sunday, Sept. 14 to participate in the 12th Annual Powerade Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C.
The three-day tournament will play on the par-72, 6,204-yard course. Joining Indiana in the field is Arkansas, Baylor, UCF, Charleston Southern, Clemson, College of Charleston, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Missouri, North Carolina, NC State, UNCG, Penn State, Tennessee, UCLA, Virginia, Wake Forest and Wisconsin.

The Hoosiers will send five golfers led by Elizabeth Tong, who is coming off a strong summer. The Ontario, Canada native Tong was the first golfer to advance to the round of 32 at the 2014 U.S. Women's Amateur National Championship on Aug. 6. Tong also competed at the Women's U.S. Open this summer at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.
A freshman from West Vancouver, B.C., Alix Kong will play the No. 2 spot. In high school, Kong was a six-year member of the Collingwood School boy's team and a three-time MVP and captain.
Playing in the No. 3 spot is Camille Chevalier, a second season Hoosier. In her first season, she competed in all seven spring tournaments, highlighted by a top-25 finish at the Briar's Creek Invitational and competed in her first Big Ten Championships in March, where she finished tied for 44th with a score of 237.
Junior Marissa DeCola will play in the No. 4 spot for the Hoosiers. DeCola competed in seven tournaments, but saw her spring season cut short due to injury.
Rounding out the travel group is freshman Taylor Howerton from Evansville, Ind. She was a medalist in 10 of 17 tournaments her final season at Evansville North. Howerton was also a sectional medalist as a senior with a score of 69.
