OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -- The Indiana men’s golf team closed out the 2014 Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational on Sunday with a team score of 307, leaving them with a overall score for the three rounds of 922 and 15th place in one of the strongest fields of the season.
Freshman Matt Weber, playing in his first collegiate tournament, fired the round of the day for Indiana, carding a 3-over par 73 to leave him with a total score for the tournament of 231 and a tie for 57th place. Weber birdied his first hole of the day and went out in 1-under par 34. He then recorded pars on each of the first seven holes on his back in – the front nine of the course – before a double bogey and bogey on his final two holes.
Senior Nicholas Grubnich struggled in his final round on Sunday, posting a score of 80 for a tournament total of 227 and a tie for 38th place. It ends his run of consecutive tournaments placing in the Top 25 at three.
Sophomore Will Seger registered a 75 on Sunday and tied for 59th place with a tournament total of 233 while freshman Bredon Doyle was just two strokes behind him at 235 after his 79 on Sunday.
Andrew Havill finished in 73rd position for the tournament after posting an 83 in his final round.
The Hoosiers will continue their tough stretch of golf to start the season with the Wolf Run Intercollegiate next weekend at Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville, Ind. The tournament will feature 36 holes of golf on Saturday followed by 18 holes on Sunday. Admission in free to the public.
