IU Hosts Butler Wednesday Night

SETTING THE SCENE • Indiana looks to get back on the winning track as it plays host to in-state foe Butler in a nonconference matchup.
• The Hoosiers have given up just two goals this season, along with three shutouts. • The Hoosiers lead the all-time series with Butler 21-4-1, but dropped a 3-2 decision in overtime last season after leading 2-0 in the 86th minute.
NEWS AND NOTES
• For the first time in program history Indiana lost its Big Ten season opener, falling to No. 16 Penn State by a 1-0 score. • Mason Klerks scored the game's lone goal in the 27th minute.
• The final scoreline is contrasted by a dominating performance by IU, out-shooting the Nittany Lions 20-6. • The Hoosiers controlled the run of play in the second half and had several close chances, including a header from goalkeeper Colin Webb in the game's final seconds.
• It marked the first time this season Indiana had trailed in a match. • Andrew Oliver, Dylan Lax and Patrick Doody led the way with three shot attempts each.
• Jack Griffith added two shots, one on goal, coming in off the bench. • The Hoosiers are now 1-1-1 against ranked opponents this season.
• A tally of 3,205 fans were at the IU-PSU match Saturday night as the Hoosiers are averaging 3,744 fans per game at home.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS • Butler enters Wednesday's match with a 2-2-2 record, going 0-2-1 in its last three matches.
• The Bulldogs' wins have come vs. Canisius (2-0) and IUPUI (1-0), with a 2-2 tie at Ohio State and a 1-1 tie at SIUE. • Junior midfielder Jeff Adkins and sophomore forward David Goldsmith lead the way with three goals each. Junior midfielder Caleb Postlewait and junior midfielder Vincent Mitchell account for the team's other two goals.
• Goalkeeper Eric Dick has played all 600 minutes this season, allowing seven goals for a 1.05 GAA with 16 saves and two shutouts. • Head coach Paul Snape is in his fourth season at Butler. He is assisted by Adam Bruh, Jason Perry and Mike Sanich.
SERIES HISTORY
• Indiana leads the all-time series with Butler 21-4-1, with the Bulldogs finding most of their success over the last five seasons. • Indiana is 3-3 against Butler in the last six meetings, including a 3-2 overtime loss last year in Indianapolis.

His cousin Bobby de St. Aubin played at IU from 2000-01, and his younger brother Tommy played at IU for the 2013 season. • Four players on the Indiana roster have spent time at other schools. Senior Jamie Vollmer spent one season at Butler before transferring to IU. Juniors Matt Foldesy and Phil Fives are in their first year in Bloomington after two seasons at Akron. Junior Will Lukowski spent his freshman and sophomore seasons at Iowa Western Community College.

CAUGHT IN HIS WEBB • Sophomore Colin Webb is back in goal for the Hoosiers after taking over the starting role toward the end of the 2013 season.
• Webb is already off to a strong start in 2014, picking up his first shutout in a 1-0 win over No. 12 Marquette. For his play vs. the Golden Eagles and also in a 1-1 tie with No. 9 Georgetown, Webb was named to the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic All-Tournament team. • He posted back-to-back shutouts in 1-0 wins over Kentucky and Dartmouth at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament.
• Webb also picked up back-to-back Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors on September 2 and 9. • So far this season Webb has 12 saves and allowed just two goals in 457:59 minutes of actio for a 0.39 GAA.
• As a true freshman Webb started all three matches in goal in the Big Ten Tournament, leading IU to wins over Michigan, Penn State and Michigan State en route to the program's 12th Big Ten title. • Webb finished with three shutouts and 29 saves in 578 minutes of action last fall, posting a record of 3-2-1.

• Indiana is looking for new avenues for goal-scoring production as just 15 of its 36 goals scored last season return (42 percent). • Junior Femi Hollinger-Janzen is the top returning scorer with five goals in 2013. Next on the list is junior Andrew Oliver, who contributed three.
• Sophomore Tanner Thompson is the top returning assist man with four, to go along with one goal scored. • Three of Indiana's 15 retuning goals come from the defensive end with two from senior Patrick Doody and one from senior midfielder Dylan Lax.
