IU Men and Women Take Top Prize at Indiana Intercollegiates

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Both the Indiana men’s and women’s cross-country teams took first place at the Indiana Intercollegiate meet on Friday afternoon at the Boilermaker Cross Country Course. The IU men tallied 29 team points to take the top prize as the Hoosier women scored 19 team points in the Big State results.
It marked the sixth straight year that the IU women won the team title at Indiana Intercollegiates. IU’s Amanda Behnke came in first place in a time of 17:09.9 on the 3-mile course. Freshman Jill Whitman took second place in 17:30.3 as Amelia Reynolds placed fourth in 17:35.2. Bethany Neeley (5th, 17:36.0) and Brittany Neeley (7th, 17:36.9) also scored for the Hoosiers.
For the third straight year, the Hoosier men took the team win at Intercollegiates. IU’s Evan Esselink led the way with a third place finish in 24:50.5 on the 8K course. Matt Schwartzer placed fourth in 25:05.0 and Jason Crist finished fifth in 25:11.7. Also scoring for Indiana was Kieran Reilly (6th, 25:18.9) and Owen Skeete (11th, 25:34.7).
In the open races, the top Indiana finishers were Tretez Kinnaird in fourth place in the men’s 8K race in 25:57.7 and Brianna Johnson in second place in the women’s 3-mile run in 18:10.6.
The Hoosiers will next compete at the Washington Invitational in Seattle, Wash. on Oct. 4.
