WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -The Indiana women’s tennis team competed in day two of the Tribe Invitational at William & Mary on Saturday afternoon. IU picked up seven doubles wins and three singles victories.
In singles play, IU’s Katie Klyczek picked up a victory over Wake Forest’s Xue Zhang in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1. Alecia Kauss also won for Indiana over Wake’s Luisa Fernandez, 6-4, 6-2. Hoosier freshman Stephanie Smith topped Kasey Gardiner of Wake Forest in consecutive sets, 7-5, 6-2.
In doubles play, IU had three tandems go 2-0 on the day. Those duos getting two wins were Carolyn Chupa and Klyczek, Shannon Murdy and Smith as well as Sarah Baron and Kauss. Paula Gutierrez and Kim Schmider also played together to get a doubles victory.
“Day two was much like day one. Our doubles got a little better with every match, and so did our singles,” head coach Lin Loring said. “We have gotten to play all nine girls each day. Most teams are playing six or seven, so it has been really great that we can play with some depth. Also, the weather was great again so we got to play outdoors, which we really needed.”
Day three of the Tribe Invite will get started at 9:15 a.m. ET on Sunday.
