SETTING THE SCENE • Indiana is coming off its best offensive performance of the season in a 4-2 win over UCF Wednesday night.
• Jamie Vollmer, Trevor Swartz, Patrick Doody and Grant Lillard all had goals for IU. • Indiana is now 2-1-2 at Armstrong Stadium this season.
• The Hoosiers are 1-1 in Big Ten play, while Northwestern is still looking for its first conference win a 0-1-1.
NEWS AND NOTES • Indiana recorded its second-straight multiple-goal game with a 4-2 win over UCF Wednesday night.
• Jamie Vollmer's first goal of the season came before most were settled in their seats as he tapped in a pass from Matt Foldesy in the third minute. • After UCF tied things at 1-1, Trevor Swartz scored his second of the season, a "sniffer" as he put home the rebound off a Femi Hollinger-Janzen shot that came off UCF goalkeeper Sebastian Evers.
• It took just another 40 seconds for IU to extend its lead to 3-1 when Patrick Doody hit a one-touch strike from 25 yards out for what would be the game winner. • UCF got a goal back in the opening minutes of the second half with a shot from the top of the 18 from Romario Williams.
• The Hoosiers got a little breathing room in the 59th minute when Grant Lillard headed home service from Billy McConnell for his first career goal. • The teams finished with 12 shots each, while Evers made two saves and Colin Webb three.
• Nine of IU's 11 starters had at least one shot attempt. • The Hoosiers are 1-1-1 against ranked opponents this season.
• A tally of 1,475 fans were at the IU-UCF match on September 24 as the Hoosiers are averaging 2,885 fans per game at home. • Indiana is out-shooting its opponents 117-76, with 57 shots in the first half and 55 shots in the second half.
• Indiana is 0-3 on regular season penalty kick attempts over the last two seasons.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS • Northwestern enters the match at 4-1-3 overall, 0-1-1 in Big Ten play.
• NU dropped a 2-0 decision at Ohio State on September 14, and played Michigan to a 0-0 tie on September 21. • The Wildcats are led by junior forward Joey Calistri with three goals and one assist. Junior midfielder Cole Missimo has three goals on the year as NU is outscoring its opponents 8-3.
• All eight of Northwestern goals have come in the second half. • Senior goalkeeper Tyler Miller has played all 780 minutes, with six shutouts and 21 saves for a 0.35 GAA.
• NU is 0-1-1 in road matches this year. • Head coach Tim Lenahan is in his 14th season at Northwestern. He is assisted by Joe Ahearn and Jeff Oleck.
SERIES HISTORY
• Indiana leads the all-time series with Northwestern 25-2-4. • Last year IU was a 3-0 winner in Evanston. Prior to 2013 IU and NU had played to three-straight ties, 1-1 in 2012, and 2-2- and 1-1 ties in 2011.

• The Hoosiers are 96-22-13 in regular season matches, tallying 29 more victories than second-place team Penn State (67). • Indiana is 20-1-3 in Big Ten openers.
• IU has won 12 Big Ten tournament titles, sharing the 1995 crown with Wisconsin. • Indiana has also been crowned regular season champion 14 times, including nine-straight seasons from 1996-2004. IU won back-to-back regular season titles in 2006 and 2007 and re-claimed the regular season crown in 2010.
• Indiana has been the league's goals-against average leader in 15 of 23 seasons, including 2012 when the Hoosiers posted a 0.72 GAA. • The Hoosiers have led the Big Ten in goals scored in two of the last three seasons with 39 in 2011 and 41 in 2012.

• After a slow start the IU offense has been clicking over the last two matches. • Six of the Hoosiers' 10 goals this year have come in the last two games vs. Rutgers (2) and UCF (4).
• Indiana has tallied 29 shots in the two games, with 15 on frame (51.7 percent; 9/17 vs. Rutgers; 6/12 vs. UCF). • Prior to the two matches, just 23 of 88 attempts (26.1 percent) had been on frame.
OFFENSIVE DEFENDERS
• Indiana has gotten a nice offensive lift from its back four in 2014. • Left back Patrick Doody is tied for the team lead in goals scored (2) and total points (5).
• Both of Doody's goals have been game winners this year, in a 1-0 win over Dartmouth and a 4-2 victory over UCF. • Freshman centerback Grant Lillard got in on the scoring with his first career goal coming vs. UCF on September 24.

LEANING ON THE FRESHMEN • Indiana has seen good returns from its freshman class in 2014, with the newcomers stepping up both offensively and defensively.
• Freshman midfielder/defender Trevor Swartz is tied for the team lead in goals scored with two. Swartz scored the game winner in IU's 1-0 win over Kentucky, and added his second in a 4-2 victory over UCF. • Freshman midfielder Michael Riedford was the one who put home the game winner in IU's 1-0 triumph over Marquette.
• Freshman defender Grant Lillard added his name to the list vs. UCF with his first collegiate goal. Lillard has started all eight matches and played a key role in the Hoosiers' four shutouts this season. • Freshman Jack Griffith and redshirt freshman Brad Shaw have also seen significant minutes this fall.
IN THE POLLS
• Absent from the college soccer preseason rankings, the Hoosiers remain in the top 25 for the fourth-straight week. • Indiana fell three spots to No. 17 in the NSCAA poll, despite not losing a game last week.
• The Hoosiers dropped two spots in the Soccer America Top 25, coming in at No. 14. • Future IU opponents in this week's top 25 include No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 9 Louisville. No. 10 Saint Louis, and No. 16 Michigan State.
BAGELS, BAGELS, BAGELS
• Indiana is all about the "bagel" or shutout this year after a 2013 season when it had trouble keeping opponents off the board. • The Hoosiers picked up their first bagel in the second game of the year on August 31 with a 1-0 win over No. 12 Marquette.
• Last year Indiana's first shutout did not come until the ninth game on the schedule, a 2-0 victory over Ohio State on September 29, 2013. • Shutout number two came in a 1-0 win over Kentucky on Sept. 5, and that was followed by the third shutout of the year on Sept. 8 against Dartmouth by a 1-0 score.
• The Hoosiers tallied their fourth shutout of the year in a 0-0 double overtime tie with Butler on Sept. 17. • Indiana had just four shutouts in all of 2013, after putting up 13 in 2012.
LEADING THE SHIP
• Senior Patrick Doody has been named team captain for the 2014 season. • Doody has appeared in 69 career matches, making 50 starts. He scored his first career goals in 2013 (2) and has seven assists in his career.
• His third career goal was the game winner in a 1-0 win over Dartmouth. Goal number four was the game winner in a 4-2 victory over UCF. • Seniors Dylan Lax, Kerel Bradford and Jamie Vollmer will also rotate as game captains throughout the season.
CAN YOU SCORE?
• Indiana is looking for new avenues for goal-scoring production as just 15 of its 36 goals scored last season return (42 percent). • Junior Femi Hollinger-Janzen is the top returning scorer with five goals in 2013. Next on the list is junior Andrew Oliver, who contributed three.
• Sophomore Tanner Thompson is the top returning assist man with four, to go along with one goal scored. • Three of Indiana's 15 retuning goals come from the defensive end with two from senior Patrick Doody and one from senior midfielder Dylan Lax.
• So far this year Hollinger-Janzen, Doody, Trevor Swartz, Tanner Thompson, Grant Lillard and Michael Riedford have found the back of the net. • Thompson leads the way with two assists.
CAUGHT IN HIS WEBB
• Sophomore Colin Webb is back in goal for the Hoosiers after taking over the starting role toward the end of the 2013 season. • Webb is already off to a strong start in 2014, picking up his first shutout in a 1-0 win over No. 12 Marquette. For his play vs. the Golden Eagles and also in a 1-1 tie with No. 9 Georgetown, Webb was named to the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic All-Tournament team.
• He posted back-to-back shutouts in 1-0 wins over Kentucky and Dartmouth at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament. • Webb also picked up back-to-back Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors on September 2 and 9.
• His fourth shutout of the year came with three saves in a 0-0 double overtime tie with Butler. • So far this season Webb has 20 saves and allowed just three goals in 747:59 minutes of actio for a 0.60 GAA.
• As a true freshman Webb started all three matches in goal in the Big Ten Tournament, leading IU to wins over Michigan, Penn State and Michigan State en route to the program's 12th Big Ten title. • Webb finished with three shutouts and 29 saves in 578 minutes of action last fall, posting a record of 3-2-1.
