SETTING THE SCENE • Indiana is coming off a disappointing 1-1 tie with Northwestern, after holding a 1-0 lead into the 89th minute.
• The Hoosiers' goal in the game came on a penalty kick from Tanner Thompson, his second goal of the year. Both goals have come in the last three IU outings. • Tonight marks the start of two-straight matches against top-10 opponents as the Hoosiers will travel to No. 9 Louisville on October 7.
• The Hoosiers are 1-1-1 against ranked opponents this season.
NEWS AND NOTES • Indiana left two Big Ten points on the table as it had to settle for a 1-1 tie with Northwestern on September 28.
• Indiana dominated the early going, out-shooting the Wildcats 9-3 in the first half and putting a total of nine of its 19 shots on frame. • After seeing a goal from Andrew Oliver called back and a no-call of a takedown of Oliver in the penalty area, the Hoosiers broke through in the 73rd minute with a penalty kick from Tanner Thompson.
• The play began with a corner kick from Thompson, resulting in an NU defender holding down Grant Lillard to prevent a scoring opportunity. • 0-1 on PKs this season, Thompson stepped up and NU goalkeeper Tyler Miller guessed wrong, as Thompson slotted it home in the lower left hand corner.
• Northwestern began to step up its attack as the first of IU's five saves didn't come until after the 65th minute. • The Wildcats broke through with just 1:03 left in regulation as a rebound shot was punched up by Webb and off the underside of the crossbar, finding Brandon Medina who headed it home.
• Indiana's best OT chance came just 40 seconds into the first extra session as Oliver broke free, but Miller came off his line to smother the ball just a step before Oliver could get a shot off. • Indiana's five saves on the day included a clearance off the line from Lillard.
• A tally of 1,966 fans were at the IU-NU match on September 28 as the Hoosiers are averaging 2,732 fans per game at home.

OT...EH... • While Indiana has yet to find the back of the net in overtime matches, going 0-0-3 this season, the extra sessions have not been as unkind to the Hoosiers as they were in 2013. • Last year IU saw eight of its matches go to overtime, going 1-5-2 in those games.
• The Hoosiers' only extra time victory of the season came in the 2013 Big Ten Tournament, a 2-1 victory over Michigan. • However, two of its three OT ties this season have come in games where Indiana held a 1-0 lead (Georgetown, Northwestern).
SNAKEBIT?
• Junior forward Andrew Oliver has been oh-so-close on several occasions this season but nine games in is still looking for his first goal of the year. • Sunday's match vs. Northwestern was no different has he was looking at a goal several times and came up just short.
• The first opportunity he did put away a rebound of a shot from Tanner Thompson, but was judged to have been offside by the assistant referee. • In the second half he was making his way to goal with the ball, but a Northwestern defender tripped him up in the box. No penalty call was made.
• Just seconds into the first overtime period Oliver broke free with the ball and had a 1v1 opportunity with NU goalkeeper Tyler Miller, but Miller was able to come out and cover the ball just a second before Oliver could get a foot on it. • Oliver is fourth on the team in shot attempts with 15, but just four have been on frame.
ON TARGET
• After a slow start the IU offense has been clicking over the last three matches. • Seven of the Hoosiers' 11 goals this year have come in the last three games vs. Rutgers (2), UCF (4) and Northwestern (1).
• Indiana has tallied 48 shots in the three games, with 24 on frame (50 percent; 9/17 vs. Rutgers; 6/12 vs. UCF; 9/19 vs. Northwestern). • Prior to the three matches, just 23 of 88 attempts (26.1 percent) had been on frame.
OFFENSIVE DEFENDERS
• Indiana has gotten a nice offensive lift from its back four in 2014. • Left back Patrick Doody is tied for the team lead in goals scored (2) and is tied for second in total points (5).
• Both of Doody's goals have been game winners this year, in a 1-0 win over Dartmouth and a 4-2 victory over UCF. • Freshman centerback Grant Lillard got in on the scoring with his first career goal coming vs. UCF on September 24.
• It was right back Billy McConnell that set up the score as he whipped the ball into the box, where the 6-4 Lillard headed it home.
