Volleyball Holds Annual Banquet

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team held its annual end of the year banquet on Sunday, January 11, celebrating the 2014 season and honoring senior Morgan Leach.
End of the season awards were also given and a 2014 highlight video was presented. Head Coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan talked about the season and Leach reflected on her time at Indiana.
First-year players were presented with letterwinner gifts, as Jessica Leish and Makayla Lundin earned their letter jackets. Second-year members Allison Hammond, Taylor Lebo, Jazzmine McDonald, Awele Nwaeze and Megan Tallman were awarded IU letter blankets, while juniors Amelia Anderson, Courtney Harnish and Kyndall Merritt were given framed “I” awards. Morgan Leach received her senior ring as well as a framed jersey.
The Hoosiers also recognized its Big Ten award winners. Awele Nwaeze received her award for Defensive Player of the Week and Kyndall Merritt was honored for her Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. Leach, Harnish and McDonald were honored for their Academic All-Big Ten awards.
Several other honors were handed out that evening as well. Morgan Leach was selected by her teammates as the recipient of the Player’s Inspirational Award, an honor bestowed upon a student-athlete that demonstrates the most passion on and off the court and inspires their teammates on a daily basis.
Harnish was presented with the Hoosier Army ROTC Leadership Award. This award is given to Hoosier Scholar-Athletes who demonstrate through exceptional leadership the ability to elevate the performance level, morale and cohesion of their team. Commitment, selfless service, sacrifice and a never quit attitude are at the core of their character. Whether in practice or a game, in the classroom or on the court, this Hoosier Scholar-Athlete is trusted, respected and admired for their willingness and ability to lead.
Kyndall Merritt took home the Coaches Award to close out the banquet. Selected by the coaching staff, the Coaches Award is given to the player who best exemplifies the character on which the foundation of our program has been built and maintained.
