BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women’s soccer team announced its 2015 spring schedule on Tuesday. The slate includes five games, all of which will be played in the state of Indiana, starting with a March 1 game against The University of Dayton.
“As a team we are excited to get spring started,” Indiana head coach Amy Berbary said. “We put together a schedule that is challenging and will allow us to see where we are progressing as a program. We have a young group of players, and it is our goal to use this spring to allow them to gain some valuable in-game experience and build some confidence as we prepare for the fall.”
The Hoosiers will kickoff the spring season by facing the Flyers from The University of Dayton on March 1 at 3 p.m.. The game will be played indoors at Mellencamp Pavilion on the IU Bloomington campus. This will be a rematch for the Hoosiers, who defeated the Flyers in a closely contested, 2-1, match on September 7th in Columbus, Ohio, during the Ohio State Tournament.
Next up, the Hoosiers will travel to Terre Haute, Indiana, to take on Indiana State on Saturday, March 28th. The game will be played on the Sycamores home field - Memorial Stadium - at 1 p.m. These two teams met to open the 2014 season, with IU recording a 2-0 win at home behind a pair of goals from rising senior Jessie Bujouves.
The third game of the spring will send Indiana to Indianapolis to tangle with BIG EAST opponent Butler University on Saturday, April 11 at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs return a pair of All-BIG EAST and NSCAA All-Region selections from last year’s team that went 9-8-2 overall. The last time IU and Butler met on the pitch was during the 2011 season, with Indiana logging the 6-1 victory in Bloomington.
The Hoosiers will return home to Armstrong Stadium a week later, on Sunday, April 19, to play host to Kentucky at 3 p.m. in their final home game of the spring. The two teams met last spring in Lexington, with the Wildcats handing IU a 1-0 loss.UK is coming off its first-ever appearance in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament and finished the 2014 campaign with 16 wins.
To conclude the spring, Miami University and Indiana will square off at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana, at 7:30 p.m. The game will be the featured game on the first day of the Crossroads of America College Showcase hosted by the Indiana Fire Juniors club. In last year’s spring matchup, it was the Hoosiers that came out with a 1-0 win over the Redhawks in Bloomington. Miami would go on to post a 14-3-2 record during the 2014 season and finished second place in the Mid-American Conference.
