BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana and Purdue dual meet featured intense competition with the women’s competition coming down to the last event and a dive to the finish line. Indiana won on the men’s side 80-55, while the Purdue women won 72-64.
The Indiana men’s team has now been victorious in the dual meet in five of the last six years. The Indiana women hold a 4-2 advantage over the last six years.
The Indiana men won 10 events, led off by Cornelius Strickland taking the 60m dash in 6.89. Strickland came back to also win the 200m dash in 21.49.
The men swept the top three places in the high jump, 800m and 3,000m and took the top two spots in the mile run.
Sophomore Tretez Kinnaird, who holds the IU school record in the 600m dash won the event in a time of 1:18.40. In the mile Kyle Duvall sprinted to the finish as he crossed the line first in 4:09.22.
In field event action, Matt Gerbick won the long jump and Steven Leonard took the top spot in the high jump.
On the women’s side the Hoosiers won four events, including sophomore Brittany Neeley in the mile in 4:54.79. Sophie Gutermuth won the pole vault with a best clearance of 4.16m. Nakel McClinton won the women’s weight throw with a mark of 18.74m. Her mark is the seventh best in school history.
Up next the Hoosiers host the Gladstein Invitational Jan. 23-24 at Gladstein Fieldhouse.
