BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana women’s tennis team ended day one of the IU Winter Invitational with a perfect 4-0 mark in doubles play. The Hoosiers also picked up three singles victories on the day inside the IU Tennis Center.

In doubles, Indiana’s Kim Schmider and Alecia Kauss teamed up for an 8-2 triumph over Oregon’s Allie and Kadie Hueffner. Paula Gutierrez and Katie Klyczek picked up an 8-5 win over OU’s Nia Rose and Alyssa Tobita.

IU freshman Sarah Baron and sophomore Mary Beth King won a match tiebreaker to come out on top over Oregon’s Marlou Kluiving and Nicole Long, 8-7 (4). Stephanie Smith and Shannon Murdy made it a perfect doubles day for Indiana with a win over Abilene Christian’s Nada Marjanovic and Ansley Boarman, 8-4.

Kauss, Klyczek and King were all also victorious in singles play. Klyczek cruised in her win over ACU’s Brittney Reed, giving up just one game, 6-0, 6-1. Kauss blanked Abilene Christian’s Erin Walker in the first set before taking it in two, 6-0, 6-4. King also won in straight sets, topping Boarman, 6-2, 6-3.

Day two of the IU Winter Invite will get started at 10:30 a.m. ET inside the IU Tennis Center on Sunday, Jan. 18.
