ORLANDO, Fla. - Indiana University all-female Crimson Cheerleaders saw their attempt for a fourth consecutive national championship come up just short as the Alabama Crimson Tide all-female squad won the 2015 UCA National Collegiate Cheerleading all-girls championship Sunday night at HP Field House. San Diego State finished third.
"This is just a tremendous accomplishment for our cheerleading program as the last five years we have been runner-up, three straight years national champions and now runner-up in 2015," said cheer program head coach Julie Horine. "We knew other squads were going to challenge the Hoosiers, and the competition was even more outstanding this year as we've watched the competition grow year after year. Our all-female squad gave very unselfishly preparing for the championship, and they're disappointed not to repeat for a fourth year. Still, they have believed in each other, and nobody can deny just how well they have represented the Hoosier Nation. They are the Pride of Indiana, and we appreciate all the support and well wishes received from alumni and fans in our championship pursuit."
Indiana's Cheer coaching staff includes Horine, Tony Nash, Alex Martin Blauvelt, Marcus Wolfe, Megan Grimes and Dan Greathouse. The national runner-up Crimson Cheerleaders return to Bloomington Monday afternoon and look forward to presenting their trophy at an upcoming Indiana basketball game in Assembly Hall.
