BLOOMINGTON, Ind. --The Indiana University men's basketball team enters the national rankings for the first time during the 2014-15 season at No. 23 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and by the Associated Press.
The Hoosiers are ranked by the coaches for the first time since December 2, 2013, and by the AP for the first time since the conclusion of the 2012-13 season.
This will be the 534th week since the poll began in 1947-48 that IU will be a nationally ranked squad. The Hoosiers rank 8th all-time in that list and 6th all-time in the top five (178), and top 10 (277). All three marks are the best among Big Ten programs.
Every four-year player since the poll began has played for a nationally ranked squad at IU.
Since the 2011-12 season, IU is second in the nation with 18 regular season wins against nationally ranked opponents. IU has seven wins in Assembly Hall against Top 10 programs during the last four years.
IU will host No. 8/13 Maryland, with the lead in the Big Ten standings on the line, this Thursday night at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
