BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After running the top time in the nation in the 600m dash on Saturday at the Indiana-Purdue Dual Meet, sophomore Tretez Kinnaird has been honored by the Big Ten with the Track Athlete of the Week award.
Kinnaird, who holds the Indiana school record in the 600m, won the event in a time of 1:18.40 to score points for the Hoosiers and help the men’s team to an 80-55 victory over Purdue.
Kinnaird also ran on the Indiana 4X400-meter relay that set a season-best time of 3:13.30, which ranks No. 25 in the NCAA. This is the second Big Ten weekly award this season for Kinnaird.
Kinnaird had an outstanding freshman season, setting the 600m school record, earning All-American honors as part of the Indiana distance medley relay that finished third at the NCAA Indoor Championships and finishing runner-up in the 800m at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships.
Kinnaird went on to claim the USA Track and Field Junior National Championship in the 800m and finished in sixth-place at the World Junior Championships in a time of 1:47.13, the second fastest time in school history.
Kinnaird and the Hoosiers host the Gladstein Invitational this week, starting on Friday Jan. 23.
