BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan has announced the addition of assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Randi Raff to the IU volleyball program.
Raff, a native of Rensselaer, Ind., spent the previous three seasons at Northern Kentucky University as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
Prior to NKU Raff spent two seasons at Division III Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va., as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Raff helped lead the Captains to back-to-back 38-win seasons, including a national runner-up finish in 2011. As the main trainer for the Captains’ defense, Raff helped improve the team’s blocking from 1.4 blocks per set in 2009 to 2.1 blocks per set in 2011.
Raff was honored with the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s “30 Under 30” Award, which recognizes young up-and-coming coaches among all NCAA divisions in both men’s and women’s volleyball.
“Randi is going to be an excellent addition to our staff as our recruiting coordinator,” Dunbar-Kruzan said. “She has the personality, work ethic and connections to help us bring the best volleyball players in the country to Indiana. You are immediately impressed with Randi when you meet her as she draws people to her and that was evident by the number of quality coaches across the country that called on her behalf.”
Prior to her time at CNU, Raff served as an assistant coach for two seasons at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
"I couldn't be more excited to join Sherry's staff and return to my Hoosier state,” Raff said. “Heading to IU truly feels like coming home. After spending some time getting to know Sherry, Paul Koncir, Shane Wilkinson and Matt Fishman, it was clear this is THE place to be right now and there are, no doubt, some incredibly special things on the horizon for our Hoosier volleyball family. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity and can't wait to take on the challenge of competing in the Big Ten and against the best in the country."
Raff earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Southern Indiana, where she also played four seasons of volleyball and helped the Screaming Eagles to two Great Lakes Valley Conference championships. Raff continued her education at Purdue University, earning a master’s degree in health and kinesiology while serving as a graduate assistant strength coach to the Purdue volleyball, women’s golf, diving and cheer teams.
“I think our student-athletes here will connect with her,” Dunbar-Kruzan said. “She brings immediate energy and a competitiveness to everything she does and the players will feed off of that. We’re excited to have her representing Indiana and can’t wait to get her to Bloomington to hit the ground running.”
