BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men’s tennis team will get their spring season underway as they travel to Hanover, N.H., for the Kick Off Classic hosted by Dartmouth.
The No. 64 IU men’s tennis team will kick off the season against No. 65 Cornell on Friday Jan. 23 at 12:00 p.m. ET. The following day the Hoosiers will take on No. 46 and host Dartmouth at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Since he was hired on Dec. 10, IU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman has thought about the team atmosphere and stressed that to his group as they started practice two weeks ago.
“What I want us focused in on is being a team and being one out there,” Wurtzman said. “That is what we are trying to promote each day as coaches is that we want to have a great team environment, encouraging each other and fighting with each other to get to four points. I feel if we become a great team and come together every match that’s a great accomplishment.”
The Hoosiers return nearly their entire roster from a season ago, led by junior Sam Monette, who was an All-Big Ten honoree last year. Senior Sven Lalic played the majority of the season at the No. 1 singles position and the Indiana squad features a deep team in which many got playing time last season. The Hoosiers have added two freshmen this season in Raheel Manji and David Metz.
