Hoosiers Conclude Day One of Gladstein Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men’s and women’s track and field teams won a combined eight events as they opened competition on day one of the Gladstein Invitational on Friday at Gladstein Fieldhouse.
Freshman Jill Whitman continued to improve as she crossed the finish line first in the 3,000m run invitational section in a personal best time of 9:33.08. Her time is tops in the Big Ten and ranks ninth in the NCAA. In the same race sophomore Amanda Behnke finished fourth in 9:40.71, with the third best time in the Big Ten this season.
Another freshman, Andrew Miller continued to move his way up on the IU record books. Miller finished second in the weight throw, with a mark of 19.80m, which is now the fourth best mark in IU school history. His teammate Dyrek Chowning finished third with a mark of 19.70m, good for fifth best in program history.
Sophomore Adrian Mable finished fourth in the prelims of the 60m hurdles in 8.08, which is tied for the fifth fastest time in school history for the event. Mable will compete in the finals of the 60m hurdles tomorrow.
Junior Terry Batemon improved on his season best by over a foot in the pole vault as he finished second in the competition with a clearance of 5.20m (17-1).
The Indiana men took the top three spots in the mile, led by redshirt sophomore Jason Crist in 4:07.58. He time is the fourth fastest in the Big Ten this season.
Through four events of the men’s heptathlon Dylan Anderson leads the competition with 3,101 points, while Stephen Keller is second with 3,012 points.
The heptathlon 60m hurdles will start day two of the Gladstein Invitational tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. ET.
