Hoosiers Win Opener Against Cornell

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After dropping the doubles points, the Indiana men's tennis team rallied to win four of six singles matches to pickup a 4-3 victory over Cornell in their first match of the season on Friday in Hanover, N.H.
The Hoosiers came up short in the doubles matches, but responded in singes, as they took the first set in four of the six singlles matches.
"I was proud of the way we bounced back after doubles to have a very strong start in singles," Indiana Head Coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "It was a great team effort today and we are trying to promote that positive team culture and the guys are doing a great job."
Juniors Sam Monette and Daniel Bednarczyk each claimed wins in singles. Monette competed in the No. 1 spot and took a 6-2, 6-4 victory, while his doubles partner Bednarczyk won 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot.
Stefan Lugonjic claimed the third point for the Hoosiers with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles and the match came down to the No. 4 singles match with sophomore Matt McCoy.
McCoy won his first set 6-4, but dropped set two in a tiebreak. McCoy would clinch the match for the Hoosiers with a 6-3 win in set three to put the match in the win column for the Hoosiers.
Up next the Hoosiers take on host Dartmouth tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. ET.
