BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The No. 49 Indiana women’s tennis team downed Miami (OH) on Saturday afternoon inside the IU Tennis Center, 6-1.

Indiana (1-0) swept the doubles point right out of the gate to take the first team point of the day over Miami (0-1).

In singles, IU’s Shannon Murdy made it a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Hannah Shteyn in the No. 5 match. Paula Gutierrez gave the Hoosiers their third point of the day with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Ramona Costea in the No. 3 position.

Then in the No. 2 match, Alecia Kauss clinched the team win for Indiana as she downed Christine Guerrazzi in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

Other IU wins in singles came from Katie Klyczek at No. 1 and Mary Beth King at No. 6.

Indiana will host a pair of matches on Sunday, Jan. 25, inside the IU Tennis Center as the Hoosiers will battle Western Michigan at 11 a.m. ET and then Eastern Illinois at 4 p.m.
