Hoosiers Fall at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 53 Indiana men’s tennis team trailed No. 26 Vanderbilt 3-1, but came back to tie the score 3-3, but eventually fell 4-3 on Friday.

In doubles the Hoosiers (2-1) and Commodores (5-2) split the first two with Vanderbilt taking No. 1 doubles 6-0 and Indiana getting back with a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles. The Hoosier duo of Sven Lalic and Raheel Manji won 6-4 at No. 3 doubles to give the Hoosiers the doubles point.

Vanderbilt came back with three straight set wins at singles to go up 3-1 in the match. At No. 3 and No. 5 singles, Raheel Manji and Sven Lalic forced third sets after dropping their first set.

Manji gave the Hoosiers their second point with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win and shortly after Lalic followed up with a 3-6, 6-6, 6-4 win to even the overall score 3-3.

The match came down to No. 6 singles, which started later than the other match and Vanderbilt’s Suresh Eswaran won 6-4, 6-2 to give Vanderbilt the 4-3 win.

Up next the Hoosiers play at home for the first time, on Sunday Feb. 1 as they host Western Michigan at 10:00 a.m. and battle Northern Illinois at 4:00 p.m.

Limited edition posters and schedule cups will be given away at the match as well as a tennis racquet to one lucky fan.
