Hunter Runs Top #B1G Mile This Season at Indiana Relays

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior Rorey Hunter ran the fastest time in the Big Ten this season in the mile as the Indiana track and field team opened competition at the Indiana Relays on Friday at Gladstein Fieldhose.
Hunter finished in third-place in the race in 4:03.95, the fastest time in the Big Ten this season and 12th best time in the NCAA.
In the women’s mile race sophomore Brittany Neeley finished second in a season-best time of 4:50.20 and Madison Stenger finished third in 4:50.72, the ninth and 10th best times in the Big Ten this season. IU alum Molly Ludlow won the race in a time of 4:37.15, the sixth fastest time in the US this season.
Freshman Daniel Kuhn finished second in the 600m dash in 1:18.78, the sixth best time in the Big Ten this season and fifth fastest time in IU school history.
In the 60m dash races Shawntanay Johnson had the second best time of the day in 7.62. Johnson also with Cornelius Strickland, who finished third in a season-best 6.82 will advance to the semi-finals of the 60m dash tomorrow.
In the early section of the mile races, redshirt freshman Corinne Cominator passed numerous runners over the last lap and won with a personal best of 5:01.76. On the men’s side, three Hoosiers ran under 4:07, led by Kyle Duvall, who won the race in a time of 4:06.45. Eric Claxton was third in 4:06.75 and Josh Roche fourth in 4:06.88.
Freshman Rachel Mather won the high jump with a clearance of 1.69m. Strickland improved on his season-best in the 200m dash with a second-place finish in 21.33. His time is the fourth best in the Big Ten this season.
In the men’s 3,000m run, Mark Chandler took second-place in 8:15.86 and Owen Skeete was third in 8:17.43. The Hoosiers now hold three of the top five times in the Big Ten in the event with Evan Esselink, Rorey Hunter and now Chandler.
Day two of the Indiana Relays will get started at 10:30 a.m. with the invitational section of the women’s weight throw. Track events will start with the semi-final of the men’s 60m dash at 10:50 a.m.
