AUSTIN, Texas – The Indiana University men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished up a great meet against two top-10 teams on Saturday in Austin, Texas.
The Indiana women defeated Florida for the second-straight day, 142-120, but fell to Texas, 141-115. On the men's side, the Hoosiers lost to the defending NCAA champion Texas Longhorns, 154-108, and lost to Florida, 140-122.
On the day, the Indiana men's and women's swimmers combined to win seven events and record 11 NCAA B cut qualifying times.
"I was very pleased with our performances over the two dual meets," IU head swimming coach Ray Looze remarked. "Beating the Florida women is a fantastic step forward for our team. On the men's side, we were ahead of Texas with just a few races to go which illustrates we are closing the gap on the reigning National Champion. In the case of Florida, it came down to the relay and an earlier take-off prevented our men from tying the Gators at the end. What's really positive with today's results are without our diving points from Friday, we put ourselves in position to beat the No. 1-ranked Gators. Overall, we are improving and the competitive experience gained from such a meet is incredibly valuable toward our team's development."
